Gashmius Magazine is now taking submissions for Volume Seven: Shabbos

 

Seven is a holy number in our tradition: seven days of the week, seven generations between Abraham and Moses, seven emotional attributes of the Divine. Seven is both culmination and cessation. Seven is Shabbos—when we rest from the creative labor of the workweek.

Here at Gashmius, we have arrived at our seventh volume. As our tradition teaches, this release is both celebratory and culminating. Volume Seven will focus on the theme of SHABBOS and will also be our final volume before an indefinite sabbatical.

​

Since 2022, our rotating staff has published six volumes, a Haggadah companion, panels, one-off poems, and holiday resources. We have grown from a small community into thousands of regular readers and, thank Gd, continue to grow with each release. But as our sages teach us, we must enter the seventh day as if all our work is complete. Gd willing, we will one day return to pick up where we left off.

First, though: Volume Seven, on the theme of SHABBOS. And we want to hear from you.

How do you embody a neo-Hasidic Shabbos? Through a traditional shul service, a hike, a singing circle? Where does prayer fit in? Do you compose your own prayers, customs, poems, or songs for Shabbos? How does Shabbos shape the rest of your week? What place does Shabbos hold in Hasidic theology, and how have past neo-Hasidim reimagined it?

In this volume, we hope to explore these questions and more.

We will only accept submissions explicitly connected to a Hasidic or mystical approach. Please follow the style guide on our website and submit complete drafts—we will not be accepting pitches.
